Tale

The old donkey stands out in the field, it raining and cold, the ground is muddy with no grass to eat.

Thinking to himself, how many more years can I carry on like this, oh I wish I was with my other friends long since gone from this earth.

Owned by many owners, I now end up here in this muddy field, with no shelter from the rain and the wind.

I was bought from a market by an old man, I can never forget my fear at all the noise, pulling and pushing, and how they whipped me so that I would show myself off better, but I couldn't because I was so tired and weak through lack of food and water, I can't remember the last time I ate a nice bale of hay without having to fight for it with my other friends here.

When the summer comes the old man will take us out, to give rides to the children, but he has very little money which means he can't afford a lorry to take us in, so we have to walk many many miles before we give the rides.

After our long walk I'm so tired I don't want to give any rides, but I have to so that the greedy old man can line his pockets with the money we make for him. That summer afternoon, we had to walk many miles back home to our field, I knew we wouldn't get any extra food, or water, So I was again forced to fight with my friends for a morsel of hay.
I was dozing the next day, when I heard my donkey friend braying, our owner was having an argument with some people outside the field, I could see the policeman, and then a man came into the field with a head collar and he was walking towards me.
The man put the head collar on me and led me to a trailer, I stood there thinking not another  market to be pulled about and whipped  at again,
but when the trailer stopped I could hear other donkeys, these donkeys were not calling for food, they were telling me that it was alright, they said that there was plenty of food and water, with a warm stable, and a rug to wear in the cold winter months, and that I was now to spend the rest of my days  at "Folly's Farm Sanctuary for donkeys ".  It seems like there is a heaven after all!

If you know of a Donkey in need , please contact us at Folly's farm and help make that difference.
